Your OpenZine can be about anything. To help you get started we offer some suggestions:
- 7 Random facts about yourself
- Grab your "Best of" from your blog or website
- Interview interesting people you know
- Profile your talents
- Review products or places you love
- Write about funny stories
Publishing your Zine (Publish when you're ready)
Putting together your zine is exciting. Be careful not to publish before your zine is ready.
You can save your zine & finish it later. It will be stored in your "All Issues"
page.
Save All Button
- Save your zine before clicking any other buttons.
- Don't lose your hard work.
Preview Button
- This will open a new window with what your zine will look like.
Finish Later
- When you want to finish your zine later it will be stored in your "All Issues" page.
- Always save before clicking this button.
Publish Button
- Publish when your zine is ready.
- After you publish you can still go back & edit.
Cover Design Basics (It all starts with a good cover)
Keeping your cover design simple and clutter free will help improve your readership, views and subscriptions.
Portrait Design
- Bold title.
- Person's body takes center stage.
- Headline text relates to image.
Side Design
- Show un-cropped image.
- Title on left or right side.
- Use headline text as anchor.
Sectioned Off
- Leave empty space on page edge.
- Use color blocks.
Boxed Sections
- Title & images use a boxed layout.
- Images bleed off of page edge.
Artistic / Other
- Use empty space.
- Show part of larger image.
- Slant and rotate text and images.
Text Editor Design Basics (Make it look like a magazine)
Read More
When you have a long article you should add a "Read More" link. This helps with your layout composition and gives your zine an inviting look.
- Adding a "Read More" link keeps you zine layout simple.
- Add the "Read More" link in a strategic way to maximize interest and enhance your layout.
Adding Images
Adding images inline with your writing will help you tell your story.
- Adding images is simple and easy.
- Using the property inspector on the bottom of the text editor you have many options for your image.
- Images in the text editor can be justified to the left or right.
- Add a border or link to your images.
- Set the text to flow around your image.
Adding your Own Code Do not disrupt the website layout integrity.
If you are familiar with HTML feel free to enhance your zine.
