We all know someone who can sing, we all tell them 'You could be a star/famous *insert word here*' In the USA they have American Idol and it attracts singers in their thousands if not 100s of thousands. In the UK we have XFactor or Britain's Got Talent. Again, queues form around the block, of hopefuls with huge dreams and fragile egos.

Lalouba knows too well, the trials and tribulations of going for XFactor. She sent off her application form in January and finally received an audition notification for the Birmingham auditions in April. She went along, stood in the cold and damp for several hours before making it into the auditorium. When she finally go to sing her piece 'Valerie' she was told in no uncertain terms by a producer (not even getting to Mr Cowell et al) that she wasn't good enough and not what they were looking for.

In years gone by, Lal would have gone home and never picked up her guitar again. But this time was different. She went home and wrote "Start Again" & "Superstar" the next afternoon.

The Past...

When Lalouba was 8 she picked up her first guitar and taught herself to play it. She taught herself to read music and then started to write. She threw herself into school productions of Scrooge and Little Shop of Horrors. When she moved to Qatar as an 'expatbrat' she joined a band called Jive Turkey. They played mainly covers and often Lalouba was relegated to backing singer while getting to sing the odd song when the male lead was taking a break.

In 2005, Jive Turkey auditioned for the chance to play as the opening band for a Bryan Adams charity concert in Doha, Qatar. They got it and Lalouba performed 4 songs in front of nearly 15,000 people. Her songs range from the gutsy Guns 'n' Roses style to the more gentle Sarah McLachalan shown in the Youtube videos here. But her talent lies in her own beautiful lyrics and music.
