The Nightmare
“Sweet Dreams” says
her mother as she turns off the lights
As the girl drifts
off to sleep.
She dreams of a
different world
A better place.
As she sleeps she
starts to dream
Her dreams are her
paradise,
A way to get free
from everything around her
A place to turn.
Tonight’s dream is
different
Scary and real…
Its something she has
been waiting for
That something was
you.
The dream lingers on
Into the dreadful
hours of the night,
Night after night,
the dream comes back
Different each time
but just as real.
Until one night the
dream
The beautiful dream,
Becomes real
Not a dream, but a
nightmare.
Week after week the
girl sleeps
Screaming into the
wee hours of the night.
Her mother listens
but cannot help
She wishes her dreams
would lead her back to the beginning.
“Good night” her
mother says
But this time she
doesn’t turn off the light…
As the girl sits
looking out the window
Wishing to be free.
Tonight she does not
dream
Because the dream
that she dreamt,
Was not a dream
It was her life…
With enough strength,
the girl says “good-bye”
“Good-bye” to you,
knowing her perfect paradise is ruined,
“Good-Bye” she says
one last time
As tears stream down
her face…
